Dental Veneers
Dental Veneers are a very thin tooth-shaped porcelain shells that are custom-made just for you (for desired shape, size and color) by us at Old Hook Dental. The dental veneers are permanently bonded onto the front of your natural teeth to create a more beautiful and attractive smile. Simply put, the things we can do with dental veneers are amazing - the physical changes we see by using them can be stunning, and the increase in patient self-confidence we see afterwards is just awesome.
With dental veneers we can completely reshape your teeth, close gaps, straighten (slightly) crooked teeth, change color, width and length, cover old fillings, stains, chips, completely change how your smile looks and possibly change your life. Remember, a smile is the first thing we see when we notice someone and a universal welcoming greeting in any language. Dental veneers are what people refer to when they talk about getting a "Hollywood Smile," and often patients will return afterwards claiming they feel 10 years younger and they can't believe how much attention they get from friends or romantic interests.
From a dental perspective, veneers can often be a good alternative to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions. They are very durable, minimally invasive, capable of lasting many years, highly resistant to staining and can restore or give you a beautiful long lasting smile. Caring for them is exactly the same as natural teeth - yes, you still need to brush and floss (sorry). Please click here to visit our Smile Gallery and see full before and after photos of a case.

What does getting porcelain veneers involve?
Getting veneers usually requires two to three visits with us at Old Hook Dental to complete the process.
- The teeth are prepared by minimally shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer.
- A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and here is the part where we want you to be involved: these are your new teeth and we want you to love them and be as proud of them as we are of our work; this is your moment where you (along with Dr. Aurbach's recommendations) get to choose the shape, length and color of your beautiful, new teeth.
- All of your options will be explained to you by Dr. Aurbach and we will help guide you through the entire process.
- Once we have discussed your options, you will leave the office with your "Trial Smile", temporary veneers custom fabricated in our office for you to wear and give us feedback on so we can meet your goals.
- You will have the opportunity to give them a test run for a few days. During that time, if there is anything you are not in love with, we will ask you to come back in and make adjustments for you (remember, this is the temporary phase where we can still make changes).
- When you are completely satisfied with them, we send the impressions to the lab to begin fabrication of your new veneers.
- On the second and/or third visit the temporaries will be removed, the teeth will be cleaned and prepared with special materials to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer, and our curing light is used to harden and permanently set the bond.
Dental care for veneers is no different from regular dental care. If you want to be proud of them and keep them around for a while, you will need to clean and floss your new smile daily, just as before. Visit us regularly for professional care and maintenance, and lastly consider wearing a night-guard to prevent teeth grinding while you sleep.
