Case #7 - Full Arch : Smile Restoration - Maxillary Fixed Dental Implant Prosthesis
Case details : Patient had prior failing dental work and supporting teeth. The patients teeth began to fail and needed to be removed; leaving him without any upper teeth due to periodontal disease. He was extremely unhappy with the esthetics prior to their removal. Patient did not want to address the lower teeth at this time and will continue with treatment once the top had been completed. The patient had 4 upper teeth remaining that was supporting a 7 unit bridge. All upper teeth were removed and the patient was provided with an immediate temporary removable denture on the same day as the extractions to use for esthetics and so he can eat properly while healing occurred. Once healing was complete, 6 dental implants were placed and allowed to continue to heal for 3-4 months, during this time the patient was wearing the temporary removable denture. After full integration of the dental implants, fabrication of the final prosthetic teeth began. The patient was provided a fixed temporary restoration during this time that does not get removed. The patient is instructed to wear this temporary and provide feedback for any needed adjustments. Once the patient is satisfied and feels his bite is comfortable, the temporary is removed and a second temporary is provided while the original is sent to the laboratory as a blueprint to begin fabrication of the final prosthesis. The final prosthesis consisted of a titanium milled bar framework with layered zirconia for strength followed by layered porcelain for esthetics. The patient was extremely happy with the outcome of the case and is enjoying his new teeth, smile and ability to eat.
